Thai armed forces are aiming to occupy the Keo Sikhakirisvarak Temple, located within the vicinity of the Preah Vihear Temple, a World Heritage Site, military sources said late Sunday night.

The sources stated, “Thai troops are moving aggressively, using heavy weaponry, with the intention of occupying the site ahead of a planned meeting on 28 July 2025 between Cambodian and Thai leaders in Malaysia to discuss a ceasefire deal.”

“They may be trying to pressure Cambodia into a corner, hoping the country will agree to withdraw its recently filed complaint to the International Court of Justice.”

The ICJ ruled that the Preah Vihear Temple belongs to Cambodia in two separate rulings, in 1962 and again in 2013.
